Building regulations stipulate that all new building must have ventilation whether that be opening windows or mechanical heat recovery ventilation (MHRV).
By introducing ventilation, it enables building/spaces to have the necessary requirement for there to be a specified air change rate in accordance with building regulations.
This system will eventually have to be everywhere from schools, offices, hotels, gymnasiums, shopping centres, banks, restaurants, pubs etc, any new builds are implementing this now.
