At the 8th National ACR & Heat Pump Trainee of the Year Awards 2017 which were held at The Belfry on 7th December.  These prestigious Awards recognise some of the top young engineers in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry.

Two of our young engineers, Ethan Garside and Tom Griffiths, were nominated as finalists for the Awards by PRTC Training Centre.

We are delighted to announce Ethan came Runner-Up receiving a cheque for £500 together with numerous tools and Tom, as one of the ten finalists, (the largest intake in the eight year history) received a cheque for £200 and a selection of tools.

Allcool (NW) Ltd are very proud to announce that both Ethan Garside and Tom Griffiths have been nominated for the prestigious ACR Trainee of the Year Award 2017.

Tom said about his nomination: “Throughout my time at Allcool, I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment and job in this trade, with the help of The Growth Company and my boss Paul, putting me through a variety of different experiences and training courses allowing me to learn and gain a huge range of knowledge and to become a better person. I am very pleased and honoured to be selected for ACR Trainee of the Year Award, as I know all my hard work has been recognised by other people. Here at Allcool I will continue to learn and improve and become a great engineer.”

Ethan said about his nomination: “I am extremely proud and happy that the College thought I was worthy of a nomination for the ACR Trainee of the Year Awards. I have worked extremely hard to get to this point and feel that this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my company, Allcool (NW) Ltd, PRTC Training Centre and The Growth Company. I am very grateful for the support that was given to me over my apprenticeship. This has helped me grow into a confident and skilled engineer.”

Local business Allcool (NW) Ltd has been awarded accreditation from Safecontractor for its commitment to achieving excellence in health and safety.

Safecontractor is a leading third party accreditation scheme which recognises very high standards in health and safety management amongst UK contractors.

Employing 24 people, Allcool (NW) Ltd is principally involved in the mechanical sector, specialising in the refrigeration and air conditioning industries.  Allcool (NW) Ltd's most recent clients have included major players such as the Partington Group, Blackpool & Fylde College, Blackpool Council, Bowker BMW, Grand Hotel at Grasmere, Lancaster University, Slater Gordon Solutions, Williams Refrigeration and Metrolink.

The Company's application for Safecontractor accreditation was driven by the need for a uniform standard across the business.

Safecontractor accreditation will enhance the Company's ability to attract new contracts and its commitment to safety will be viewed positively by its insurers when the company liability policy is up for renewal.

Safecontractor is applicable to most sectors although it is particularly relevant to food manufacture, property, facilities management, retail and leisure sectors, all of which are big users of contracted services.

John Kinge, Technical Director of Safecontractor said, "Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies in place."

More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Allcool (NW) Ltd has done.  The firm's high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.

Safecontractor plays a vital role in supporting our clients in meeting their compliance needs, whilst working with their contractors as they progress through the accreditation process."

Under the Safecontractor scheme, businesses undergo a vetting process which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice.  Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via a website.

Client-organisations who sign up to the scheme can access the database, enabling them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site.  These clients agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those who have received accreditation.

Over 210 major, nationwide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.
