The Company's application for Safecontractor accreditation was driven by the need for a uniform standard across the business.

Safecontractor is applicable to most sectors although it is particularly relevant to food manufacture, property, facilities management, retail and leisure sectors, all of which are big users of contracted services.

John Kinge, Technical Director of Safecontractor said, "Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies in place."

More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Allcool (NW) Ltd has done.  The firm's high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.

Safecontractor plays a vital role in supporting our clients in meeting their compliance needs, whilst working with their contractors as they progress through the accreditation process."

Under the Safecontractor scheme, businesses undergo a vetting process which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice.  Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via a website.

Client-organisations who sign up to the scheme can access the database, enabling them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site.  These clients agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those who have received accreditation.

Over 210 major, nationwide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.

Allcool (NW) Ltd working under instruction from AC Electrical, recently installed 10 X 10KW Daikin cassette style air conditioning systems along with two heat recovery fresh air system's into Kirkgate House on the Blackpool Business Park off Squires Gate.

Remit:-

Our first task was to commence with the stripping out of the existing air conditioning systems and remove the old equipment from site.
The large open planned area had been divided into 4 distinct open planned areas. Allcool (NW) Ltd installed 10 X 10KW cassette units that have both cooling and heating capabilities by means of a supper efficient heat pump system. The use of the In ceiling cassette units was felt to be the optimal solutions and were installed with the outdoor condensing units mounted on cantilever brackets with all wiring and pipework secured neatly inside cable tray.
As you can see for yourself, the result was an exceptionally neat and efficient system.

The existing air conditioning units were all pumped down and de-gassed and safely disposed of in compliance with the F- Gas regulations.  The interconnecting pipework and services were retained and we flushed the copper tube with a solution to remove any residual oil that may have been contaminated.  We then installed three Mitsubishi cassette type air conditioning units with the outdoor units having been treated with a specialist marine coating for added protection against the harsh North West environment that exists here at the coast in Blackpool.  The indoor cassette fascia grills were spray painted black to match the ceiling tiles within the Bingo Area to ensure that they matched the fa├žade that exists in the hall.
It was required that the engineers "Work at height" when installing the outdoor condensing units, once again, our engineers undertake a full health and safety inspection prior to commencing with work on any Air Conditioning installation.

Allcool (NW) Ltd have been commissioned to supply and install a number of split type air conditioning equipment to the "new build" offices on Whitehills Industrial Estate in Blackpool on behalf of Bailey Group.

After much consultation it was agreed that the Mitsubishi Heavy Industry, Compact Cassette Units would be the unit of choice. These units have state of the art electronic modular electronic control units offering exceptional energy efficiency resulting in low operating costs. The units also incorporate reverse cycle heating which will also result in lower heating costs during the winter months. These split air conditioning units are to be installed on both the ground and first floor areas of the building.  The low noise, compact indoor cassettes units will be suspended from the building structure using unistrut and threaded rod hanging mechanism and the outdoor units will be situated at ground level on suitable galvanised cantilever brackets.
